How We Started Meowsic - Born in Teesside Launchpad During GMTK 2025

“What if the loop wasn’t a mechanic… but a rhythm?”

Meowsic began in Teesside Launchpad Victoria building, during a frantic 4‑day game jam where sleep was optional, ideas were chaotic, and Greggs burgers were basically a food group.

The jam was part of GMTK Game Jam 2025, and the theme was “Loop”.

Most teams leaned toward time loops, puzzle loops, or gameplay cycles. We wanted something that felt more alive, something that moved.

That’s when the idea hit us:

“What if the loop wasn’t a mechanic… but a rhythm?”

From that moment, everything clicked.

We spent four intense days building the earliest version of Meowsic, a tiny rhythm‑platformer starring a chaotic little cat whose world pulsed to the beat. The animations were rough, the code was duct‑taped together, and the art was drawn between bites of late‑night Greggs… but the heart of the game was already there.

Even in its jam‑state chaos, people loved the concept. The feedback told us something important:

This wasn’t just a jam entry. It was the start of a real game.

After the jam ended, we kept developing Meowsic, refining the movement, rebuilding the prototype in C++, designing proper animation systems, and slowly shaping it into the full indie title it is today.

What started as a 4‑day experiment in a university building fuelled by caffeine and cheap burgers has become one of Scyte Studios’ flagship projects.
